Built in the middle of the thirteenth century under the influence of castle architecture, the Red Tower is Fribourg's oldest and most imposing tower.
Up to 1848, it was a prison and place for beheadings. Square in shape, it is 15 metres wide, 38 metres high, and the lower parts of its walls are 3 feet thick.
